Types of Programs
Clinics
A Clinic is three days of very intense multi-subject concept instruction, with students on their own horses. Clinics are capable of handling all levels of riders at the same time. There are usually 20 to 40 riders with varying interests in horse handling. Clinics are meant to be a shot in the arm for your riding program. It's one of the easiest ways to get quality time for a reasonable price. Depending on the number of riders, one to two instructors facilitate the clinic. Ron conducts approximately 25 clinics per year all over the United States. To date, Ron has instructed over 755 clinics. The clinic fee for 2007 is $425.00 per rider for the 3 day clinic. Once in awhile there are limited or special clinics, that have a different fee. See Schedule for fees, dates, and locations. All correspondence is with the clinic sponsor, including information on stall fees, local lodging and meals.
Clinic sponsorship:
If there is not a clinic scheduled in your immediate area, but you would like to ride in a McLoughlin clinic, you might want to become a sponsor. You and other horse enthusiasts could benefit from the clinic and it could be profitable for you as well. If you are interested in becoming a clinic sponsor, please contact Carole Jackson at the e-mail address: Carolej22@comcast.net or by phone, 904-389-2882.
Schools
A seven to ten day intense program. Multi-subject concept. 20 to 30 riders with more than one instructor. (2 to 4 Instructors). A good way to start any program. Generally in a rider’s geographical location. It is suggested that riders bring two horses. Subject matter is from riding to management, to vet care.
No McLoughlin Horse Handling schools are scheduled at this time.
Training
McLoughlin Horse Handing will take a limited number of outside horses in training each year. (Horses must be at least 2 1/2 to 3 yrs. old to start) There is a 6 month minimum on un-broke training horses, and horses already under saddle have a 3 month minimum stay. Fee includes all training and board.
1. Student Trainers.......................$500.00 per month
2. Staff Trainers............................$750.00 per month
1. Student training consists of M.H.S.S. students or our Certified Trainers putting work on the horse, however, most would be advanced students in the certification program, with supervision from our staff.
2. Staff training is preformed by Ron, Lisa, and certified trainers only.
Resident Program
Our most popular resident course is an eight-day school, for three to five students. It is held at McLoughlin Horse Handling School. Resident programs run the scale of intensity. It is a live-in full time horse handling holistic training program. At times, students are allowed to bring their own horses, but usually our school ranch horses offer the best learning experience. Resident programs are not for everyone, and are the most expensive type of instruction, although they offer the best value for your money. The “not for everyone” statement does not necessarily mean level of riding, but attitude!!
All the different resident programs are designed for students with a keen interest in becoming non-pro or professional horse handlers of a higher level, and students with a good attitude to improve themselves and accept the hard continuous daily work. Students will be exposed to all aspects of horse handling. You will experience long days of grooming, ring work, trail riding, reading, studying horse handling theory, working your horses alone, saddling and unsaddling, hours of watching demo videos and videos of yourself. Students will get the chance to ride different horses of various levels of training daily.
Most resident week courses are for students who have ridden in several of McLoughlin Horse Handling Clinics in the last 2 years, as students should be familiar with Ron’s teaching and vocabulary. However, there are some 8 day and 32 day course resident programs being offered to students with no background in the McLoughlin system. (Contact the school for the best dates for this type of student.) All resident courses are held in Pearce, Arizona at the Horned M Ranch. The ranch facility is not fancy, it is a working ranch situation...Lodging is clean and comfortable, and the food is hard to beat! However, if you are looking for a dude ranch or resort with entertaining aspects, you won’t find it here. The atmosphere and environment take a high priority for safety and the grasping of knowledge here at McLoughlin Horse Handling School. All instruction will be given by Ron McLoughlin with assistance from Lisa McLoughlin and McLoughlin Horse Handling certified instructors.
Cost for the resident student Program:
8 day resident course ...........................$1,600.00 per 8 day stay. Includes room & board, instruction and horses.
30 day resident course ........................$5,000.00 per 30 day stay. Includes room & board, instruction and horses.
4 year Certified Program .....................Full Scholarship. Includes room & board, instruction and horses.
Lessons
A one hour lesson, ideally once a week. Sometimes once every two weeks. Groups of 3 to 6 riders. Single subject concept. The perfect place for a new rider to begin. Lessons would be structured to present horse handling from the ground up. Weekly lessons are on lesson horses or sometimes on the owner’s horse. Weekly lessons are also the best place for riders who are not beginners, but are new to a given program or system. Weekly lessons are not limited to foundation work. Many high level riders take weekly training or lessons.
McLoughlin Horse Handling School offers weekly lessons to the local horse individual. Weekly lessons are offered at the ranch depending upon the scheduling of Certified or student instructors, as to which days are scheduled. Our weekly group lessons cost $35.00 per lesson.
Workshops
A Workshop is a 1/2 day session, or one full day (two sessions). Limited to 6 to 8 riders on their own horse. Single or double subject concept. Workshops can accent or be a stepping stone for a weekly program, two or three times a year. Workshops have a more intense atmosphere than weekly instruction. They can get weekly students over hurdles, where quality-time is a factor. Workshops are a supportive tool for other types of instruction, especially clinics. Normally workshops would not be a rider’s main type of instruction. Workshops are relatively local to the student.
One 1/2 day session costs $50.00, which consists of 2 hours.
A full day, 2 sessions, would be $90.00, and consist of 4 hours.
Our workshops scheduled this year: May 26, 2007
June 9, 2007
June 23, 2007
July 21, 2007
August 4, 2007
December 1, 2007
